Work Permits + Job Opportunities

Many of our students start their careers during their High School education. Below is information to help supporting our students who are starting their careers, or looking for job opportunities while attending Cedar Springs High School.

Work permits can be downloaded and fill out following the steps below. Work permits can be completed by the high school office team.

Please note, if you are not a current student at Cedar Springs Public Schools, you must bring a State-Issued ID or Birth Certificate for us to verify your age.

Career Pathways (CP)

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 12,000 career options to consider. One option to assist students to maintain a career focus is through Career Pathways (CP). CP are six broad groupings of careers that have similar characteristics and whose requirements call for many common interests, strengths, and competencies. The groupings encompass the entire spectrum of career options, providing opportunities for all students and all ability levels regardless of educational requirements.

Purpose

The Career Pathway program provides a framework of support and connections for students to help them make seamless transitions from high school to post-secondary education or training in preparation for successful careers in the changing work world.

ARTS AND COMMUNICATION

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY

ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING, AND INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY

Careers related to technologies necessary to design, develop, install, or maintain physical systems. Engineering - Do you enjoy knowing how things work? Do you ever think of new or better ways of doing things? When you get a gift that says "Assembly Required," do you put it together yourself? Do you like to know why? Manufacturing and Industrial Technology - Are you mechanically inclined and practical? Do you like reading diagrams and blueprints and drawing building structures? Are you curious about how things work? Would you enjoy repairing cars, wiring electrical circuits or woodworking? This could be your career pathway.

Work Permits

Age 16 or 17

Under the age of 16

Work permits are also available for pick up in the brochure wall hanger outside the high school main office door.

Steps to filling out a Work Permit

Applicant fills out Section I
Applicant must bring the work permit to potential employer, and have them complete Section II
Applicant must bring the form (after steps 1 & 2 are completed) to the high school* during business hours to have Section III completed
Applicant must return the completed original form to the employer before beginning work
