This course has an equal emphasis on literature and composition. The study of literature covers short stories, poetry, nonfiction, novels and drama. In conjunction with these literary genres, elements of literature, such as irony, symbolism, and mood are studied. The study of composition includes the development of research and essay writing skills; students will also learn to recognize and correct common mechanical / grammatical errors. Students will have a variety of writing experiences.
All students are expected to participate in classroom discussions, take notes, and respond critically to conversations.
Grammar, mechanics and the writing process will also be heavily taught throughout this course on a daily basis.
